The theme for Water Safety Month is “We All Play a Part”. This theme acknowledges the part we can (and do!) play in building a culture of water safety in New Zealand. We’re celebrating those who play a part in keeping New Zealanders safe in and around water, and we would love you to share your story. Whether it’s sharing your own story, or shining a light on someone else's effort - individual or organisation - please get involved and help us celebrate how we all play a part this Water Safety month.

Create content or a post - use the hashtag #weallplayapart or tag us in and we’ll make sure your story is amplified.

Water Safety Month is an opportunity to highlight the great work being done in communities across the motu and by organisations within the sector - from Coastguard crews, to surf lifesaving clubs, community groups, teachers, parents and more.

Drowning prevention is a complex issue that no single group can solve alone. By recognising the role we each play as individuals, whānau, communities, and organisations, we can build a stronger culture of water safety across Aotearoa.

Let’s celebrate the big and small steps we can take to keep each other safe.

How to get involved

We would love to include you in a “We All Play a Part” video to celebrate Water Safety Month!

To be a part of this - simply record yourself and / or your team sharing the part that you play in building a culture of water safety in New Zealand. An example script is below:

We’re (Organisation Name)! We Play a Part by (What you do to play a part in water safety!)
For example, our friends at Z Manu World Champs might say: At Z Manu World Champs we play a part by ensuring our participants Manu with Mana and prioritise water safety when popping Manus over summer!

Consider - what is the part you play in keeping New Zealanders safe in and around water?
Film your video (phone is fine!) - with yourself, team members (or the whole team) introducing yourself and telling us about the part you play in water safety. Feel free to add your logo or a sign with your name on it!
To be a part of our launch reel, send this video to us via Instagram DM @watersafetynz before 28 October and we will try to include it in our promoted launch reel.
OR after Saturday 1 November - you can send to us and / or post your video on your social accounts using the #weallplayapart - so we see your clip and can add to an updated reel later in the month.
